x-ecuter news
>> Team X-ecuter just updated their site.
They confirmed their mod design has only 1wire.(!!)

"Special tool design - just 1 wire to solder
play all homebrew
play all original imports
no-patch hack
eject trick hack
macrovision off
dvd reset Hack
auto kernel selector
works on all models
works on all regions
mod-disable switch

Please note that this site is for information only. No chips are or will ever be sold by this site. This project is for fun only.

Update: Nice to see the openbox dev tool is finished. If you are interested in making your own similar device for less than $25 visit the milksop development page at http://warmcat.com/milksop/

Nice to see the enigmah and xtender 12 wire clones "pandora and messiah" finished. Eight weeks too late of course but still good all the same.

2 BIOS versions on 1 flashrom
>> Arakon from the xboxhacker forums found a way to put 2 BIOS versions on 1 flashrom. With a switch you can easily change between the 2 versions.
This could be usefull 'cause now you can use Xtender1.1 BIOS for the no-patch-hack and Xtender1.0 BIOS for the reset-trick.

MessiahX pictures!
>> China-messiah posted the first pictures of the temporary design of the MessiahX.

"The Messiah-X development has been completed and released, reports around the internet will be available to those that seek.
Once feedback is obtained from the field, the design will be available from outlets within Asia only.

The design utilizes 12 wires of connectivity only (can reduce to 10), and performs 100%, Messiah team set the standard once again to be followed.

TheRegister writes about enigmah shutdown
>> "One of the groups working on a mod chip for the Xbox has pulled the plug on its project following legal consultations. The group, Enigmah-X, had hoped to create the second Xbox chip to go into circulation, following the release of the first working chip, the Xtender, for the system in May."

MAME-X gone
>> They already removed the binaries yesterday , but now the MAME-X project is totally gone :(

From xbox.mame.net :
"The Xbox version of MAME is no longer hosted at mame.net. For clarification:

*The binaries built with an illegally obtained XDK (Xbox development kit) contain information and/or code that is copyrighted by Microsoft, and redistributing said binaries would be illegal.
*The sources are not inherently illegal, but to divert any unwanted attention away from MAME, they are no longer hosted here.

If the project is hosted elsewhere, a link to it may be placed here. This subdomain will be removed shortly, though.

We moved the database to the new server but we "lost" a few hours , so if your thread is gone , feel free to post again.
The board has also been upgraded to v1.0final.

We want to thank all our advertisers who make it possible for us to pay for this dedicated server and we also want to give special thanks to NooDles (dvdivx.co.uk) for his hosting of the old xbox-scene forums.

Big x-ecuter update!
>> Very interesting update from x-ecuter.com :

"x-ecuter xbox mod

the final solution

play all backups
play all imports
no-patch hack
eject trick hack
macrovision off
dvd reset Hack
all homebrew support
auto kernel selector
works on all models
works on all regions
mod-disable switch

Update: We've been watching how the mod scene has progressed and what we see is this. There are only 2 mods on the market. Xtender and Enigmah. The others that call themselves pandora and messiah simply use the codes of xtender or enigmah so you will see absolutely no difference on features only wiring point configurations (using the data lines etc).

Now although these 12 wire mods are "very nice" but what do they give you for your extra money? Well it will save you 10 minutes of work - that's about it. There will be zero extra features compared to Xtender and Enigmah - and also any homebrew mods you may be making thanks to that Mr Sporty character who ripped Xtender's very shoddy byte swap "protection" (We use the term very loosely).

What people should be buying is a mod that was designed by guys that actually know what they are doing when it comes to affecting the way the XBOX ROM actually works - not just chip designers as in the grand scheme of things that's actually the easy part. So not only have we completely re-designed how the hack works but we have designed an incredibly easy to fit user-friendly module - at a price that quite frankly doesn't call you guys jerks for buying it.

To prove our point with regards to these clones - just ask them if they have the no-patch hack installed WITH the eject trick hack. Ask them if they have implemented a disable switch. Ask them what steps they will take THEMSELVES when a new version XBOX is introduced. You will find they will be truthful and tell you that they cannot do anything about these features, or they will lie and tell you sure - its all there and we will code our own rom whenever a change is needed.

We are almost ready to show to the people the final solution to modding your xbox.

Forget 29 wires, forget 12 wires, forget 9 wires, forget using half working roms, forget paying over $40.

Let's have some fun :)
"

Some rumors on internet say it will be 1wire others say it will be 1wire with a neoclip-like addon. (clip around BIOS).
I have received no official confirmations ... so we'll see.

MAME-X binaries removed by MS
>> From xbox.mame.net :

"Well opcode feared for the worst, microsoft went straight to the web-admin of mame.net, and down went the MAME-X binary downloads.

Finally got through to the admin, so now it is officially over. No binaries are allowed to be posted here. Specifically built with the XDK though!!! If you decide on putting it up on your sites, good luck because we don't have any responsibilty for your faults if microsoft contacts you, and we simply warn you not to even try.

So if you have downloads up on your site right now, go on and remove them, unless you want microsoft on your tails about it.

However, we'll post source code differences whenever the code changes and has new features.

MAME-X beta4
>> Yet another new beta version for MAME-X!

"Fixed scratchy sound in that occurred some games sound should be 100% correct now (well on par w/ MAME anyway).

Mapped all speakers in a 5.1 stereo system (i.e. all left channel goes to left channel speakers (Front and Back) and likewise w/ right channel, mono I think plays in all channels), this sounds a LOT better IMHO on nice stereo systems.

Mapped MAME's Config Menu to the XBox White button. With this you should be able to configure button mappings and anything else you can configure through this menu. NOTE: as of this release nothing is saved so you will have to reconfigure games every time you start them.

Mapped MAME's pause key to the XBox Black button.

Fixed the game list to read available games from the roms directory no matter what case they are in they will show up as available as long as the rom is named correctly.

N64 emulator for Xbox
>> StrmnNrmn coded a daedalus (N64 emulator) port for Xbox. For legal reasons he's unsure if he's gonna release the xbox port or not.

"A few months ago I was a bit bored after work and I thought I'd have a go porting Daedalus to run on the Xbox. Initially I was expecting it to take a couple of weeks, but I managed to get it up and running within a couple of hours (most of the time was just spent stripping out Windows specific code). Since then I've added a couple of cool features to take advantage of the Xbox's hardware: namely a couple of directly defined pixel shaders that precisely simulate the N64's combiner and blender. I've also managed to get fogging to work correctly for the first time, as well as the second detail texture that's used for certain special effects. I'm now looking at adding these features to the PC version of Daedalus too. You can see some of the first screenshots here.

I've not yet decided what I'm going to do about a release yet, as I'm pretty sure my employer won't be keen for me to release an executable (I'm guessing it goes against our developer's license with Microsoft). I've been playing around with MAME-X this week and I'm interested to see what happens with that. When I get around to releasing the next version of the source for Daedalus I'll probably also post a set of diffs in order to make the Xbox build, for any other Xbox developers out there to play around with. In the meantime I'll keep posting screenshots and progress reports up here.

MAME-X beta3
>> Opcode released MAME-X beta3.

The changes :
"*Fixed crash when returning to game selection menu from a game then trying to load another game. This means you can play as many games as you like from your media without rebooting.

*The game list now displays ALL games that you have roms for in the roms directory on the disk. This should either clutter the screen less (if you have less than a full set of roms) or more since now clones WILL be displayed if you have the clone roms.

DDoS Xbox
>> I found this on xboxhacker :

"hellNbak, an IT security specialist from the white hat hacker group Nomad Mobile Research Centre worries that massive numbers of Internet-connected Xboxes might be the perfect platform for launching distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, if a security hole is ever discovered in the console. "With the assumption that the broadband gaming network is going to catch on like crazy -- if one was able to get DDoS zombies on the millions of Xboxen sold, there might be potential for massive damage," he says."

XBox X-Launcher V0.7b
>> XBox X-Launcher V0.7b has been released by fIREwIRE2k of the xboxhacker.net forums.

"Since Version 05b, Launcher does it's configuration (fully)
via a INI file, with this Version (07b) the configuration
file has changed to XML (Thx to RUNtiME for helping me out).

I think that all people outhere are Kind enough to know how
to use the config file (select.xml).

The Title of the app you need to launch must
be placed here:

XBE Player (NetStream)

the name of the file to be launched is described in the
Text above (you can change this name to xbeplayer.xbe) but
make sure that your file on the disk is named also
xbeplayer.xbe :) Otherwise my Launcher goes Back to the
Selection Screen (hopefully)

Do not cut anything out of this xml file (if you think you
don't need the NOT USED slots displayed) this check comes
with the next release.

I Don't guaratee that all what you try will work. :)

Eject without reset hack
>> We can now confirm that the "Eject without reset hack" (a system found that makes it possible to swap disc without resetting the xbox) will NOT work on final enigmah1 , Xtender1.1 or any chip based on Xtender1.1 BIOS.

Beta/sample enigmah & Xtender1.0 are able to do the "Eject without reset trick". The hack doesn't work on newer versions due the changes made in the "no-patch hack".

This doesn't mean that DivX/VCD players are impossible thought. There are still several solutions :
*First of all you could use Xstream (plays movie from PC HDD via network).
*It's also possible people will find another method to do this Eject without reset trick.
*Player could be installed on XBOX HDD (dashboard based players)

We also received news the enigmahteam already sorted the problem and Enigmah2 shouldn't have this problem.

UPDATE: small note for the people who saw that so called Xtender 1.13 BIOS ... it's fake.

Japanese HW sales
>> For the week till 21 June :
1/Playstation 2 : 43.8%
2/GameBoy Advanced : 33.0%
3/GameCube : 13.2%
4/PsOne : 4.0%
5/Xbox : 2.8%
6/WonderSwanColor : 2.2%
7/GameBoy : 1.1%
(source : famitsu)

After the recent pricedrop in Japan the Xbox reached over 10% sales for a week , but the last few weeks it lowered again to "Jaguar-like" sale percentages.
Now it will be up to Microsoft to show if a console can survive without support from Japan.

*Added return to game seletion menu (Back+Start buttons). NOTE: You can select another game but when you play it it will load the roms then lock up, I don't know why yet.
